Structural Profile of Public Health in Canada

How are public health functions organized in the different provinces and territories of Canada?

Public health planning and delivery systems vary across Canada. In an effort to identify and to clarify the different structures across the country, the NCCHPP has surveyed provincial and territorial government websites to identify where public health responsibilities reside in each jurisdiction. This project was jointly support by the six National Collaborating Centres for Public Health.

Using the 5 essential public health functions put forward by the Federal/Provincial/ Territorial Public Health Working Group of the Advisory Committee on Population Health, we have categorized the information on public health responsibilities for each province and territory.

Since organizational structures in government are subject to change, we invite you to help us to keep this tool up to date by letting us know of any changes affecting the accuracy of the information contained in this table.
